At Sookshma, our goal is to bridge Experimental and Experiential knowledge for holistic approaches to healing, using ancient methods like Sookshma Meditation. Our aim is to explore and validate the profound benefits of Sookshma Meditation in various fields of mental health and wellness. Currently, we are studying its effects in the following areas through collaboration with our sister organization, “Peace Tree Innovations Society, Canada”:

Department of Neuropshychiatry and Behavioural Science

  • Completed Research Study: Focused on Stress and Quality of Life in Psychiatry Residents. This study measured how meditation could alleviate the mental and emotional burdens of healthcare professionals in training.
  • Research Study on Well-being of Mental Health Clinicians: A statewide study examining the impact of Sookshma Meditation on the well-being of mental health professionals across South Carolina.
  • 2-Year Project – Wellbeing of the Workforce: In collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, this innovative wellness program aims to improve the mental health and resilience of school mental health clinicians in South Carolina.

Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research

  • Completed Research Study:  Focused on Cognition in Young Adults. This study explored how meditation practices can enhance cognitive abilities and mental clarity in young adults.
  • Completed Study: A study focusing on Screen Addiction and Emotional Regulation in School Children, exploring how meditation can help students manage their emotional responses and reduce the negative impacts of excessive screen time.
India Kolar, Karnataka

Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC)

  • Completed Study:  A study assessing the impact of the practice of Sookshma meditation for 4 weeks on perceived stress score among medical students. It was observed that the mean perceived stress score of students decreased significantly. A 4-week practice of Sookshma meditation improved the perceived stress score of medical students and helps them manage their stress better.
  • Completed Study: A study assessing the impact of the practice of Sookshma meditation for 1 week on Heart Rate Variability among young adults. The overall heart rate variability increased significantly, indicating increased parasympathetic activity and relaxation response as well.

World Health Organization

United Nations, Geneva, Switzerland

In 2018, Sunita Amma and Dr. Suman presented Sookshma Healing Meditation at the World Health Organization – United Nations in Geneva. Dr. Suman introduced “Wellness from Within,” a sustainable wellness model for combating non-communicable diseases, while Sunita Amma led an experiential Sookshma Meditation session. Additionally, they conducted a “Conscious Leadership” workshop for WHO leaders, fostering authenticity and selfless action through Sunita Amma’s presence. The events were well-received globally.

Surrey Correctional Center

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

In 2012, Sunita Amma led a year-long project at the Surrey Correction Center, using Sookshma Meditation to help inmates rehabilitate. The program led to significant improvements in their mental and emotional well-being, as evidenced by letters from the inmates themselves.

Inpatient Psychiatric Unit

Vancouver General Hospital, BC, Canada

In 2016, Dr. Suman led mindfulness meditation workshops for psychiatric patients at Vancouver General Hospital, resulting in significant symptom improvements. A hospital therapist noted that patients felt enlightened, uplifted, and more compassionate as a result of Dr. Suman’s passionate and unique approach.

Daytox Vancouver

Recognizing the need for holistic approaches to addiction recovery, Vancouver Coastal Health invited Dr. Suman to lead a series of meditation workshops at the Vancouver Daytox Center. The program was met with enthusiasm, as many patients experienced immediate positive effects. Participants found the meditation techniques particularly helpful, incorporating them into their daily lives as a tool to navigate the challenges of withdrawal.

Suman’s work at Daytox was so valuable. His compassion and kindness made it so easy for him to connect with both the clients at Daytox as well as the staff. His personality was a hit with everyone! His workshop on mindfulness was very relevant for our clients. The material was informative and

accessible to our clients. We had very positive feedback from all of the participants.  We would love to be able to have Suman come back and offer his workshops

Burnaby Fire Fighters

Burnaby BC, Canada

Firefighters, the courageous first responders to accidents, fires, and medical emergencies, selflessly dedicate themselves to saving lives. This demanding role often exposes them to traumatic experiences, leading to stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges. To support their well-being, Sookshma Meditation workshops were offered to the City of Burnaby Firefighters, providing tools for stress management, exhaustion relief, burnout prevention, and trauma recovery. The firefighters particularly resonated with the self-love and self-compassion aspects of Sookshma, finding them practical and applicable in their daily lives.

International Yoga Day Celebrations
